Easter is gone and with that most of the traveling stops ! at least that’s the case for domestic travelers. Copan Ruinas gets most of its visits in starting at the end of april, all those seeking the thrill of an adventure or that humid, rain forrest type of weather and as a local I look forward for this summer to continue and bring more adventure, my next trip is el Rubi Waterfall. Easter is here and today was holy Friday, the most sacred day for loyals to catholic church and its customs. Fewer people than previous years hurdled to be part of what was the Via Crucis back from El Calvario to the central america part and back to church.

The conquistador era left us with many traditions, among them the choosing of a reigning queen to rule us for the next 365 days. As we approach the celebration of ” the santo patron San Jose” here in the city of Copan Ruinas it is customary that 3 celebrations take place: the choosing of 3 queens, the infant queen, the adolescent queen and the main queen, for some reason this year only the first two took place. tonigh was gala night and the centroamerica park was crowded with locals as well as people from all over the world.

Trees protecting or damaging the structures?
The Ruins of Copan Ruinas are invaded by trees, I am 37 years old and I see the same trees that I saw when I was little. I am not certain if these trees protect, damage or help in the conservation at all.
